ABOUT MYSELF …
MEDICAL TRAINING
After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, National University
of Singapore in 1987, I pursued training in Internal Medicine
leading to the awards of Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine
from NUS and Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Medicine from the
Royal Colleges of Physicians, United Kingdom, in 1992. I further
pursued subspecialty training in Endocrinology which I completed in
1997 with Specialist Certification in Endocrinology by the Joint
Committee on Specialist Training & Specialist Accreditation Board,
Ministry of Health, Singapore.
I had the privilege to enrich my
subspecialty training in Endocrinology with Overseas Clinical
Fellowship Awards which allowed me the opportunity to work and train
under some of the world-renowned leaders in diabetes, lipids,
thyroid and neuroendocrine disorders from two outstanding academic
centres in North America:
-
Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism,
Dalhousie University, Halifax,
Canada (1995-6);
-
Metabolic Research Unit, University of
California at San Francisco,
California, USA (1996-7).
During my professional career, I have
been admitted as a Fellow to the American College of Physicians,
American College of Endocrinology, Academy of Medicine, Singapore,
and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, United Kingdom,
respectively.
PREVIOUS APPOINTMENTS
Prior to the commencement of my private practice, I was a Senior
Consultant in the Endocrine Unit, Department of General
Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. I also held concurrent
appointments as Visiting Consultant to the Reproductive
Medicine Unit of KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the Thyroid
Clinic at the National Cancer Centre, respectively. I also taught
part-time as Clinical Lecturer, Faculty of Medicine, National
University of Singapore; and as Visiting Lecturer, School of
Health Sciences, Nanyang Polytechnic.
ACADEMIC & RESEARCH WORK
I have an active interest in clinical research and I have presented
(in international scientific meetings) and published my work quite
extensively. Most of my publications in scientific journals/ book
chapters are available upon request (refer to Publications).
My interest and clinical practice spans
the whole spectrum of endocrine & metabolic disorders. Nevertheless,
I have an active interest in the thyroid, including thyroid cancer
and ultrasound-guided procedures for thyroid nodule (refer to
Clinical Services).
I was the Editor of Medical Digest
(1999-2002), a medical periodical that is circulated to all medical
